CASE SYNOPSIS:
|
A 28 year old male patient presents for the restoration of teeth 3.6 and 3.7. His medical history reveals that he is a Type I diabetic, has a past history of alcohol abuse and a past history of heroin abuse. His current medications include insulin and methadone. The patient was given 2 cartridges of 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine prior to the restorative procedures. A few minutes later, the patient appears confused and acts as if he is “drunk”. No smell of alcohol is detected. He was placed in a supine position with legs elevated. The patient is conscious, and his skin is cold and moist.
