CASE SYNOPSIS:
A 32 year old male patient presents for the restoration of teeth 4.5 and 4.6. His medical history reveals no significant findings. The only medication reported was daily multivitamins. The patient was given a standard mandibular block using 2 cartridges of 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine prior to the restorative procedures. The patient was put into an upright position in the chair while the dentist went to perform an examination on another patient in the next operatory. The patient told the dental assistant that he was feeling nauseous and felt dizzy. It was noted that the patient was beginning to perspire heavily. The dentist returned and put the patient into a supine position with the patient’s legs elevated. The patient is still conscious.
